Marriage swindler Herbert Krugschenk is a master of his trade. His success is based on meticulous planning, and his wife "Schnuck" is responsible for this. Herbert's life is promptly turned upside down when she dumps him one day. At least the way is now clear for the big coup that his wife has always warned him about: Herbert and his son travel to Switzerland to make a pass at rich widows and fail all along the line.

German North Sea beach fisherman Hein always was happy with his wife Islebill, despite their modest life and poor dwelling. When he spares a rod-caught speaking flounder's life, the grateful enchanted prince promises to grant his wish. Hearing this, Ilsebill urges him to ask for a decent house, which is granted instantly. While Hein generously shares their newfound wealth with neighbor Klaas's penniless family, his wife keeps getting jealous of people in higher stations, urging him against growing reluctance to ask the flounder to be be promoted country squire, king, eventually pope. But as Hein feared, she only transforms into a haughty, unhappy butch abusing even her 'mere husband', and each transformation takes a hefty toll on the marine environment, which ends up inhospitable, causing coast-dwellers to flee.

But she soon realizes that Isabel's selfish husband Adrian in particular wants his mother-in-law out of the house as quickly as possible.

Musicians Hans and Peter have married the two girls they met in the band in the earlier film, Fanfaren der Liebe (1951). They are still penniless, when their wives discover that unmarried female musicians are wanted on a luxury cruise ship, they tell a white lie and go. The two husbands have to stay behind and look after the small babies, and when a children's nurse comes round from the Social Services office to see that everything is all right, she is horrified at the way the men are looking after two babies. To avoid getting reported to the children's court, the men say that their wives will be back shortly. The nurse accepts this, and says she'll be back in half an hour. The two men find the women's clothes they wore in the earlier film (when they played in an all-women band) and when the nurse returns, they pretend to be their own wives; amazingly she accepts this, but marches them off to the children's clinic for some overdue post-natal tests.
